Tying a tube fly sculin

Made a quick video of me tying a sculpin pattern fly on a tube. Pretty simple pattern to tie. I used this fly recently on the White river and had very good success with it.

About egg time

A video that I made last year. In this video I tie an egg pattern fly. This pattern has been a deadly fly at every trout stream or river that I fish.

Awesome smallie fly

This is a fly tying video that I made awhile back. I tied this pattern up for an overnight smallmouth trip on the Kings river. After two solid days of hard use, the fly proved to be deadly on smallmouths.

Summer time smallie bite

This summers smallmouth bite has been awesome. Mainly fishing the Elk River in Missouri. I feel real lucky to have the time to fish since births of my twin girls. The best patterns this year have been articulated circus peanuts, black gurglers and big nasty streamers. The biggest fish so far has been in the three pound range.
This year the size of fish have been bigger then previous years. Most trips in the past I usually would catch only 6-10 fish in the 8"-12" range. This year has been better with catches around the 20 fish per day mark, and most of the fish between 12"-16" range. As the summer ends and the fall begins,Ill be dreaming of the smallie season next year.

winter time

Wanted to go fishing this morning since i haven't had the chance due to bad weather. So i woke up and put all my layers on and headed out to the truck. My thermometer in my truck said 6 degrees, but i felt more like 20.Started my drive to Roaring River and noticed the temperature was 11 degrees and thought wow that i might warm up by the time i got to the river. After my 40 minute drive i was at the park.Put on my waders and boots and rigged up my rod and after 5 minutes my hands were extremely cold.Started my truck and cranked the heater up full blast. After a glance at the thermometer i noticed the temperature had dropped to -1 degrees. So i had all my gear ready to fish and walked down to the river.Made a few cast and bam a small trout had eaten my fly. After a short fight i had the fish to the bank.Within 15 to 20 minutes my hands were frozen.Walked back to the truck and thawed my hands. Finally i was ready to fish again.I fished a few more good looking holes and caught a few more fish. After fishing the normal holes i walked down to the catch and release area.Fished all the good spots and caught a few more trout, but nothing of any size. After fished all the holes that hold fish i walked to the truck and unloaded all my gear. Now the fun part the drive back home. While fishing all morning in temps well below freezing i learned a lesson.Any temperature below 20 degrees is dang cold, and extremely painful once the numbness goes away. All in all it was a good day, and a cold but beautiful day to be out in the ozarks.

Rainy Day

Took a quick trip to Roaring River Saturday afternoon for a quick fix.It started raining as soon as i left the house. The rain continued the whole drive. When i finally arrived the rain had quit and turned into a light mist.Got all rigged up and started fishing the first good looking hole.Made a few cast and here came the rain.Walked to the truck put on my waders and wading jacket and back to fishing.Ten minutes into my fishing trip i hooked an eager female rainbow. As i set the hook i saw her roll over and flash. The flash looked big and the fight was on.After about ten minutes i had the fish in my net.It was a beautiful female rainbow with all her fins.
Walked down the river and saw another good size fish.So i cast in front of the fish and let my egg float down with the current. It was a perfect drift, the trout swam forward and bam she sucked in the egg.I set the hook and nothing. The fish just set there and my egg floated past her.So i changed colors and cast again. It was another perfect drift. The fish ate the second egg, but this time i set the hook and the fish was hooked. The fish was very angry and powerful.A few minutes into the fight she swam over the small waterfall dividing the two holes. Finally after a long fight and missed attempts with the net i had the fish landed. After landing two bigger fish and a few smaller ones i walked down stream to the catch and release area.Caught a few small fish then spotted a big shadow in a deep hole.Made a few cast, watched my cream delight egg and magic the egg disappeared.I set the hook and the fish was hooked. After a long fight up and down the river i had the fish in my net.It was a beautiful male rainbow.

new (old reels)

got me reels in from ebay. Both are Pflueger sal-trout 1554. The cool thing is they are late 30's early 40's model reels, and they both work line new.

roaring river

Fished Roaring River yesterday. The day started off good, i hooked a 8 pound male rainbow on second cast. I thought wow that was easy, but no sooner said the fish went over the small waterfall between the two fishing holes. With the fish splashing and jumping he managed to disengage my hook. THE FIGHT WAS OVER. So i walked to the next hole and saw the shape of a fish. So i cast twice, watched the indicator and BAM. The fish was hooked. After a 10 minute fight i had the huge rainbow in my net. Took a few pics, weighted her (11 pounds) and released her unharmed to swim another day.Managed to catch around 25 fish.
